Like thousands of others, I’ve spent the past week watching April the Giraffe, waiting for her to have her baby. In fact, to be honest, I’ve spent way too much time watching April the Giraffe, waiting for her to have her baby. 🙂
So, what’s the fascination with a very pregnant giraffe who’s about to give birth at any time?
If I knew the answer to that, I’d be more intelligent than I am. 🙂
Seriously, though, I really have no clue why thousands of people, myself included obviously, want to sit and watch April the Giraffe, along with watch Daddy Oliver who is often pacing around in circles in his pen.April the Giraffe - Watching and Waiting Click To Tweet
All of this giraffe business vent viral about a week ago and with the media constantly posting about it (along with myself, of course), April has become a celebrity. I often wonder, as I watch her on the giraffe cam, what she would do if she had any idea how many thousands of people (and sometimes over 100,00 people!) are watching her at any given time on the giraffe cam.
And I guess what’s the funny part of all of this is that we are all looking at her hiney, looking for hooves, to see if she’s having that baby yet. Yes, we are all watching a giraffe’s hiney. This makes me think we all need a life LOL. No, I am not laughing as I type this. Okay, I am laughing… a lot.. way too much.
It is amazing though when you think about it… the sheer volume of people watching Oliver and April (most April) and waiting for her to have her baby.
In watching for and waiting for the lovely April the Giraffe to go into labor and have her baby, it kind of makes you think about watching for Jesus and waiting for God to work this and that in our lives. We all have different lives and are waiting for different things, no doubt.
How patient are we, or are we not, when it comes to watching April the Giraffe, waiting for her to begin labor and deliver her baby? Some of us are like ahhhhhh, just sitting back and enjoying the journey as we watch and wait. But some of us are like ARGH, kicking and screaming and highly irritated that April’s not having this baby on our schedule and when we want her to.
April isn’t going to have the baby when we want to her, no matter how impatient we become or how irritated we get that she’s still pregnant. Does it sound kind of silly that people would get upset over this? Of course it does, yet it’s happening. Doesn’t it make more sense to just sit back and let God work when He says it’s time for her to have her baby? Of course it does. 🙂 And while God works, we can watch and wait and enjoy the time.
This same principal can be applied in our lives – when life happens (and it happens), we can choose to get irritated and be impatient that so and so isn’t happening when we want it to, or we can choose to be calm and just enjoy the ride as we watch and wait for God to move in our lives. God’s timing is perfect – never hurried, never wrong. Don’t be in such a rush! Trust God and let Him move and work in your life in His time, not on your schedule. 🙂
I don’t know why we are all so drawn to watching April the Giraffe as she prepares to bring a new little giraffe life into this world – a 6 foot 150 pound little baby! Maybe it’s the idea of a new life. Maybe it’s the idea of wild life that’s not so wild. Maybe it’s the journey of life. Or maybe it’s the fact that we all want to see an adorable little baby giraffe soon. Okay, it’s probably that one LOL.
At any rate, I’m going back to watch April some more. I’m not getting much work done like this, but I’m not complaining. I really enjoy watching April. IF only she knew how famous she is… 🙂
